What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoc Research Associate position at The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia?
The Myles H. Thaler Center for AIDS and Human Retrovirus Research within the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on projects investigating post-transcriptional gene regulation in mammalian cells and viruses.
Under the supervision of Drs. Marie- Louise Hammarskjold and David Rekosh, the incumbent will participate in laboratory projects involving a combination of microbiology, cell biology and molecular biology. A large component of the project will involve analyzing RNASeq data using various pipelines on the UVA high performance computer.
Preferred skills include
- bioinformatic experience analyzing RNASeq data.
- Proficiency in a computing language, such as Python
- experience in molecular biology, including but not limited to lentivirus transduction of mammalian cells
- experience with flow cytometry
- experience in cell culture and sterile microbiology techniques
- accuracy and attention to details
- work concurrently on several projects and meet deadlines
- demonstrated initiative in decision-making and problem solving
- computer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint),
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- self-motivation and eager to acquire new skills

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
