Position : Employment Specialist
Employer : Building a Generation
Location : Redlands, CA
Status : The position is full-time, Onsite, Typically M-F 8 : 00-4 : 30 pm with a willingness to work evenings and weekends if needed. Employer offers benefits package (medical / dental coverage, vision, life insurance, 403(b), paid vacation / sick, holiday).
Salary : Hourly rate : $21-$24 DOE
Job Summary : The Employment Specialist develops job opportunities for participants enrolled in the Career Pathway Program (CPP). Provides career assessments, workforce training, and job placement while addressing barriers like housing instability. Creates and executes Individualized Career Plans (ICP) and connects participants to ongoing wraparound services to support employment and long-term stability.
Job Purpose :
Provides career planning, workforce readiness, and employment success while addressing basic needs, housing navigation, and ongoing wraparound services for long-term stability.
Duties :
- Greet participants and explain Building A Generation’s programs and resources while maintaining a professional, welcoming demeanor at all times
- Conduct outreach to promote CPP and increase the prospective participant pool
- Conduct intake assessments to identify employment barriers, housing instability, and other basic needs.
- Provide direct support in securing stable housing for unhoused and at-risk homeless clients by collaborating with landlords, housing agencies, and community partners to facilitate stable housing placements.
- Monitor clients’ progress in employment and housing stability, providing follow-up support and case management.
- Conduct career assessments and develop Individualized Career Plans (ICP) to guide participants toward sustainable employment.
- Identify barriers to overcome and provide resources to establish specific measurable short-term, intermediate, and long-term career goals on the ICP
- Facilitates “career competency development” training to help participant develop, maintain, or improve their success of obtaining long-term employment.
- Provide workforce readiness services that include assessment, resume and interview preparation, career planning and development, job search trips, computer skills workshops, and general business skills
- Connect program participants to apprenticeship and / or occupational training programs based on employment goals on their ICP
- Contact partners and determine job openings for program participants
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, services provided, employment, and housing outcomes utilizing various data and progress reporting required on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
- Must be willing to embrace new initiatives and other duties as assigned
- Refer applicants by matching employment requests with participant interests and skills; making and coordinating appointments
- Promotes successful employment by obtaining feedback from participants; examining work attitudes and behaviors providing direction and counseling; exploring vocational goals; conducting job performance workshops
- Conduct follow up for participants enrolled in training, apprenticeships and / or employment up until 1 year of employment
- Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing skill and employment data and trends according to organizations policy, procedures and processes
Skills Qualification :
1) Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Workforce Development, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).

Physical / Emotional Demands :
The ability to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time using desktop or Laptop. Ability to meet with participants and travel roughly 15% of the time to outreach, meetings, events, job fairs (mileage reimbursed for approved travel). Must demonstrate empathy and maintain composure when engaging with participants in emotionally charged situations.
