Position Title: Race 4 Chase Triathlon Assistant Coach
Reports to: Race 4Chase Head Coach and Director of Youth Engagement
RACE 4 CHASE OVERVIEW:
Race 4 Chase is children's triathlon to be held in August, and is named for Chase Kowalski, an amazing little boy from Newtown, who loved to run. Race 4 Chase strives to empower kids to reach their full potential. The Regional YMCA is one of the founding YMCA's holding a triathlon training program to help children ages 6-12 prepare for the Race 4 Chase Triathlon.
This free program runs for 6 weeks beginning at the end of June and running through August. Program times are 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. daily, Monday - Friday. Coaching staff is expected arrive by 9:00 AM and work until all children have been picked up. Race day is the culmination of the program for the eight YMCA Race 4 Chase programs at YMCA Camp Sloper in Southington, Connecticut on Saturday in August. All participants will compete in a Youth Triathlon on this day.
Applicants with experience with life guarding and competitive biking, swimming, and running will be strongly considered.
Essential Functions:
1) Able to supervise children.
2) Implements program activities that are culturally relevant (road racing, biking, and swimming) that, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.
3) Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness.
4) Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
5) Be able to exercise proper judgment when dealing with a group of children.
6) Be able to exercise proper judgment when dealing with staff.
7) Must be open and receptive to constructive criticism when it is for the benefit of the program, or the staff member's growth and development.
8) Attends staff meetings and trainings.
Physical Requirements:
1) Must be able to actively run, jump, and lift a minimum of 1/3 their own body weight.
2) Must be able to swim.
3) Must be able to ride a bike.
Pre Program
1) Attend all planning meetings.
In-Program
1) Arrive at YMCA by 9:00 a.m. and stay until ~1:00p.m. or until children have cleared.
2) Participate in all planned activity areas, including swimming.
3) Maintain highest safety standards at all times.
4) Be a positive role model for all Race 4 Chase participants.
5) Assist on field trips.
6) Participate in midsummer evaluations.
7) Be responsible for communicating any conflict situations to Head Coach or Youth Director with parents or children.
8) Keep all areas used by Race 4 Chase program clean, well maintained and suitable for use by staff, campers and families.
9) Attend and coach at Race 4 Chase Triathlon.
10) Act in a manner that promotes the core values and YMCA mission.
11) All other duties assigned.
Post Program
1) Reports needs for next year's Race 4 Chase program.
2) End of program evaluation and wrap up.
Salary : $40
