JOB SUMMARY

Manage housekeeping functions and staff to ensure property guest rooms, public space and employee areas are clean, well-maintained and welcoming. Areas of responsibility include Housekeeping, Recreation/Health Club and, if applicable, Laundry. Direct, work, and guide the team to successfully execute all housekeeping operations. Strive to continually improve guest and employee satisfaction, and maximize the financial performance of the department. Ensure that standards and procedures are being followed and consistent.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Managing Housekeeping Operations

  • Maintain strong working relationship with Front Office to ensure effective communications for operational issues
  • Obtain list of rooms to be cleaned immediately and list of prospective check-outs or discharges to prepare work assignments
  • Perform inventory of stock to ensure adequate supplies, tools and equipment
  • Ensure guestrooms, public space and employee areas are cleaned according to operating standards
  • Ensure compliance with all housekeeping policies, standards and procedures.
  • Initiate and maintain an effective inspection program including rooms, public areas, employee work and locker areas, storage areas, recreation areas, laundry areas, garage and grounds

Managing Departmental Costs

  • Supervise and approve the budgeting and ordering of guestroom and cleaning supplies, tools and equipment
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding in the importance of department’s operation and influence on the overall property financial goals and ability to educate staff on details and correlation as appropriate
  • Manage areas of operation to budget by reviewing operating statements, budget worksheets and payroll progress reports
  • Keep the Housekeeping team motivated and focused on the critical components of operations to drive guest satisfaction and the desired financial results
  • Manage department controllable expenses and cost per occupied room to achieve or exceed budgeted goals

Ensuring Exceptional Customer Service

  • Respond to and handle guest challenges and concerns immediately and effectively
  • Incorporate guest satisfaction as a component of departmental meetings with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Lead by example and empower employees to provide excellent customer service
  • Develop goals and expectations for direct report managers
  • Celebrate successes and publicly recognize the contributions of team members
  • Review employee satisfaction results to identify and address employee performance or concerns
  • Communicate expectations, recognize performance, and produce desired business results.

Conducting Human Resources Activities

  • Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently
  • Ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs) and supports the Peer Review Process
  • Establish goals and objectives for all areas of responsibility
  • Direct staff to strive for continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility
  • Interview and hire management and hourly employees with the appropriate skills to meet the business needs of the operation
  • Manage employee progressive discipline procedures for areas of responsibility
  • Review staffing levels to ensure that guest service, operational needs and financial objectives are met
  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with employees, colleagues, and teams internal and external to Housekeeping, and ensure employees are replicating the same conduct
  • Ensure employees are treated fairly and equitably

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED; 2 years of experience in the housekeeping or related professional area

OR

  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related field; no work experience required.
