What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Specialist position at The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook?
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience as a Childbirth educator. Five years of full-time experience as birth doula, supporting birthing families through all stages of pregnancy, prenatally though postpartum (in person and virtual). Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Docs and Zoom. Certifications: Doula certification and Childbirth Education Teacher.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual English/Spanish. Certification: CPR/BLS.
Brief Description of Duties:
1. Childbirth Educator
The Childbirth Educator is responsible for preparing expectant parents for labor, birth, and early parenting through comprehensive, evidence-based education. This role involves teaching classes, providing emotional support, and empowering parents with the knowledge and skills they need for a positive birth experience.
2- Doula Program Coordinator
The role of the doula coordinator involves helping prepare aspiring doulas to provide effective, compassionate support for birthing individuals. This role will be assisting with training support, coordinating the doula team for comprehensive prenatal, labor, and postpartum support, program doula support, doula liaison for the program directors.
- Planning, developing and implementing Child Birth education classes.
- Evaluate, design, train all Stony Brook Doulas.
- Administrative tasks related to Child Birth education classes and Doula Program.
- Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
