Required Qualifications(as evidenced by an attached resume):
Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in chemistry, physics, geochemistry, materials science, or a related field by January 2021.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity and experience in the common solution-based synthetic approaches (e.g., precipitation, ligand substitution, hydrothermal).Experience with in-situ experiments at large scientific user facilities as evidenced in publications orthesis.Experience in materials characterization, including but not limited to Rietveld refinement, pair distribution function analysis, small-angle scattering,x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES/EXAFS), and transmission x-ray microscopy.Experience in solid-state synthesis.Experience in designing, developing and commissioning new in situ experiments at large user facilities or other sophisticated instrumentation.Familiarity with tools capable of probing speciation in solution, including but not limited to NMR, UV-Vis, potentiometry.
Brief Description of Duties:The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigators in the GENESIS-EFRC.The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
The successful incumbent will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the ability to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
- Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of solution-based materials synthesis and nano-crystal growth, and reactions within the predetermined research scope and methodology. This includes but is not limited to: (i) identification of compositions and targets, based on empirical chemical concepts or theoretical guidance, (ii) development of synthesis and characterization protocols, and (iii) coordination of the complete research process from planning to publication.
- Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.Participate in EFRC meetings, discussion and provide reports and presentation on research progress according to EFRC guidelines. Participate in research group discussion, meetings and assist in supervising students in synthesis/in situ scattering. May also assist in grant writing.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment setup, maintenance, cleaning/organization, and ordering of supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Notes: The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Weekend work may be required at times.
