Research Technician I
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
High School diploma/GED (foreign equivalent or higher degree). One year of full-time experience in a laboratory environment. Experience working with typical tests or procedures [or techniques] relative to the field of microbiology and/or experience working with laboratory procedures for preparing solutions. Experience working with the operation of specialized apparatus or equipment relative to the field of microbiology.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in hand by the start date. Experience with preparation of solutions and microbiology growth media. Experience with microbiological techniques.
Brief Description of Duties:
Working under general supervision, the incumbent will perform a variety of routine and/or semi-skilled tasks to support and directly assist a research project or program for Dr. James Konopka in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Therefore, the selected applicant will need to have a working knowledge of typical tests, procedures or techniques relative to the field as well as familiarity with the operation of specialized apparatus or equipment relative to the field.
The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Duties:
- Maintain laboratory media and chemical stocks.
- Clean and sterilize glassware.
- Assist with general research activities in the lab.
- Ordering supplies and maintaining lab inventory.
- Assist with the maintenance of laboratory records.
- Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) to be offered for this position is noted below, it represents SBU’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Salary : $33,000 - $35,000
