Landscape Superintendent

Basic Function: Aspen Valley Ranch employs a Landscape Superintendent full-time, year-round, to be responsible for performing all agricultural, landscape, and snow removal services. The Landscape Superintendent carries out the scheduled use of resources, including labor, equipment, materials and sub-contractors to ensure maximum use and completion of work within budget, safety guidelines and quality standards. Promotes the growth and development of field staff and assists them in carrying out their responsibilities as needed. Lends support to operational activities for other divisions.

Work Performed:

  • Manages and schedules labor, equipment and material to accomplish production schedules within established budgets for all planting, irrigation, chemical application, and cutting operations. Maintains strict adherence to established schedules and budgets. Coordinates all growing activities on the ranch and landscaping.
  • Ensures all work is completed in adherence to safety policies and guidelines. Conducts weekly safety training and safety inspections on jobsites. Investigates any accident or safety violation, prepares appropriate reports, takes action steps to correct and prevent future occurrences. Defines and implements solutions to reoccurring accidents or most common hazards.
  • Maintains proper inventory of materials, equipment and other supplies are on hand to complete production activities. Order materials, equipment and supplies as needed within purchasing limits and make recommendations for equipment acquisition.
  • Supervise employees, keep attendance records, enforcing safety, equipment use and approving time cards. Participate in training to stay up to date on reporting and asset management software used for AVR work.
  • Maintain day-to-day working knowledge of all contracts and sub-contractors in progress, including field completion status.
  • Maintain a high level of good housekeeping and care of company assets in the field, vehicles, shop, field offices and ranch work-sites.
  • Supervise the recording of information, such as the proper water usage from AVR’s water resources, in order to provide appropriate reporting to all governmental agencies.

Pivotal Duties:

  • Coordinate and manage all field production activities, ensuring quality standards are maintained.
  • Have complete understanding of all contractual obligations and execute to meet such obligations.
  • Maximize use of field and other personnel, equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Work with other AVR departments to maximize and leverage company-wide personnel, equipment and other resources.
  • To maintain a safe working environment and enforce all safety standards, protocols, and regulations.
  • Ensure all field reporting and records are completed accurately flow effectively between field and office.

Ranch Specific Duties:

Surface water

  • Monitor and Maintain surface water ditches
  • Monitor, record and maintain Surface water reports

Irrigation

  • Ensure all Landscape and Agricultural irrigation and irrigation components are operating correctly and delivering the appropriate amount of water per zone. By conducting daily, weekly and monthly irrigation inspections.
  • Perform some irrigations repairs based on inspections.

Turf & Hay Management:

  • Monitor all Turf, including manicured sod, common area native and cultivated hay fields.
  • Produce annual fertilizer, weed control and mowing maintenance programs for each category of maintained grasses.
  • Perform all fertilizer and weed control applications.
  • Perform some large area mowing using a utility tractor as needed.

Weed control

  • Monitor all non-cultivated (Native) areas for the presence of noxious or unwanted weeds.
  • Produce a weed management plan to control listed noxious weeds.
  • Execute management plan by applying all herbicides to weeds outlined in plan.
  • Monitor all cultivated (planting beds) areas for the presence of noxious or unwanted weeds.

Arboriculture (Tree and Shrub Care)

  • Produce an annual maintenance program for all trees and shrubs on the Ranch to include:
  • Monitor trees and shrubs to ensure proper growth and inspect for insect and disease infestations
  • Maintenance Pruning and environmental damage pruning
  • Conduct soil and tissue samples as needed
  • Apply appropriate pesticides, fertilizers, nutrients and perform mechanical corrective pruning as needed

Fleet Maintenance

  • Completes routine maintenance on all ranch equipment. Adheres to manufacturer recommended intervals.
  • Takes equipment to repair locations as needed.
  • Manages maintenance schedules and documents them in archives.

Supervisor: Director of Ranch Operations

Responsibility & Authority:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with the team in a timely and productive manner.
  • Deal effectively with all departments and regular communication with appropriate management.
  • Must be able to follow instructions, work independently, and accept constructive feedback.

Expectations:

  • Use of vehicles, equipment and tools; ranch vehicles and equipment are to be used for ranch purposes only and are not to be used for personal or other purposes including but not limited to commuting to and from the ranch for work. Tools, equipment, and utility vehicles will be provided by AVR, as needed and approved, for use in the performance of the Duties and Responsibilities outlined herein. Mileage reimbursement will be provided for use of personal vehicles. Ranch fuel cannot be used.
  • Vacation requests: AVR requests high season blackout vacation periods throughout the year in which employees are expected to work.
  • High season working days can/will include working on weekend days and providing on-call availability as directed by management.

Minimum Requirements:

Must have strong organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills, and be able to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with ease. Ability to project a professional self-image. Must have the ability to work productively with internal staff and other operating departments as well as efficiently manage sub-contractors. Ability to handle obstacles in a positive and professional manner and to effectively communicate these problems, along with suggested solutions to immediate supervisor.

Ability to work in all types of weather conditions

Ability to drive a variety of ranch machinery

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38.00 - $42.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
