Job Summary: Design, plan, and implement effective piano instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards. Foster musical growth and creativity while supporting the intellectual and emotional development of students under the teacher's supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.
Create a welcoming, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment that supports students' intellectual and emotional development.
2.
Develop and implement lesson plans that follow the curriculum and teach the TEKS.
3.
Design, plan, and deliver effective piano instruction that supports student growth in technical skill and musicality.
4.
Teach students music theory so that they can proficiently read music at a difficulty level consistent with their years of instruction.
5.
Teach students music appreciation by exposing them to music from a variety of genres and artists.
6.
Teach students about the lives of famous musicians from different eras, cultures, and music genres to expose them to the rich history behind music.
7.
Teach students to identify the various types of music associated with the different eras in our society.
8.
Teach students the proper method for handling and caring for their instrument.
9.
Design lessons that integrate traditional core subjects with music.
10.
Help students understand the relationship between music and the core subjects of math, reading, and social studies.
11.
Design and implement assessments that objectively measure student progress in music skills and knowledge.
12.
Facilitate the development of individual student portfolios that showcase their work. Portfolios may consist of students playing various pieces to demonstrate their progression.
13.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to design interdisciplinary lessons.
14.
Identify and provide real-world opportunities for students to apply their musical skills, both in and outside of school.
15.
Maintain accurate documentation, including reports, records, and other required materials.
16.
Communicate regularly with students and parents, which may include conducting home visits.
17.
Collaborate with the Fine Arts Supervisor and Principal regarding curriculum, lesson planning, student needs, materials, and program activities.
18.
Adhere to the educator’s Code of Ethics and uphold professional, ethical, and responsible conduct at all times.
19.
Be willing to travel and provide instruction across all campuses as needed.
20.
Perform additional duties related to the continued success of the piano program as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year, accredited university.
Certification: NCLB, Highly qualified valid Texas Teaching Certificate as required by teaching assignment or acceptance to approved Alternative Certification Program and results of TEKs exam preferred.
Work Experience:
Previous experience working with elementary age students is preferred.
Documented performance resume that includes at least 3 years of experience as a professional musician
Formal training in music theory
Formal training in the application of principles of music

Ability to communicate orally and in writing with students, parents, administrators, and other professionals involved in the education of TRS students.
Ability to work under stressful conditions, with possible occurrences of extreme heightened stress.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders and maintain a professional, courteous demeanor.
Ability to keep accurate files and records.
Equipment Used: Microsoft Office, Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier). General Knowledge of accounting procedures, district policies and school law.
Working/Environmental Conditions/Mental Demands/Physical Demands: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
