Position Summary:
The Nurse is responsible for the daily functioning of health care needs of the residents within the community. This includes supervising the resident assistants, assurance of a safe medication delivery system and the training of new staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sets up, dispenses, counts narcotics and documents all resident medications
- Responsible for maintaining orderly medication cart, medication room, and accurate medication administration records and performs nursing tasks as defined by company policy and procedure, and as allowed by state law
- Exercises team discretion in responding to resident emergencies, determining need for and contacting emergency services, and/or physician and family, as appropriate
- Documents, reports and reviews resident care information to/from RCC/MCD/HSD observations, concerns, changes in resident conditions, incidents and/or accidents, and ensures that follow-up documentation occurs until issue is resolved
- Communicate appropriately with family members, physicians, and other outside healthcare providers or visitors
- Records and implements physician orders, following appropriate procedures for fax and telephone orders
- Oversees and reports performance of caregivers for compliance with established policies and procedures, and to ensure quality resident care
- Participates in orientation and training of new staff
- Acts as Manager on Duty for assigned shift in absence of RCC/MCD/HSD
- Performs other duties as assigned
