POSITION SUMMARY:

The function of Child Watch Staff is the overall care both physically and emotionally, and supervision of all children placed in his/her care. Responsibilities include room maintenance and cleanliness, accountability for supplies and childrens belongings, effective communication with children, parents, Y members and babysitting staff and supervisors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise and implement the programs in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.
  • Being responsible for the appearance of the room as well as setting up and breaking down the furniture; maintaining the quality of the program; maintaining the supplies, equipment, materials and general housekeeping in the classroom.
  • Keep track of each child and their belongings. Make sure that all their items are labeled.
  • Communicate with supervisor on a regular basis with regards to any questions or concerns you may have.
  • Make sure that each child is in the best care when visiting the YMCA. Comfort them when they are sad, change diapers as needed, feed them their bottles or snacks when they need them and offer them a variety of different activities to engage in.
  • Take the children to the soft play gym or outdoors on nice days.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as requested.
  • If working more than 4 hours, the staff member will have a 15-minute paid break. Your supervisor will monitor and schedule the break. (Please use your break to eat snacks and meals)
  • Greet all members in a positive manner and effectively communicate with the parents daily.

  • Work to keep a safe, conducive environment for the children as well as being certain to speak with the children in an appropriate manner.
  • Maintain a professional attitude, following the philosophy of the Riverbrook Regional YMCA and modeling the Character Development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to personnel as well as personal issues.
  • Effectively communicate with the parents daily in a positive manner.
  • Understand that you are here as an advocate of the Y and each member. Accommodate Accordingly.
  • Job responsibilities include access to protected health information. The employee may access protected health information (PHI) only to the extent that it is necessary for job requirements. May only share PHI with those who have a need to know specific member/participant/employee information in order to complete job responsibilities related to the individuals participation, payment or company operations. Is expected to complete required HIPAA privacy training and maintain HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Child Watch Staff has access to protected health information (PHI) of Y program participants. Child Watch Staff may use and disclose PHI to workforce members for the purpose of treatment, payment and operations only.
  • Follow and implement all HEPA policies and standards in all YMCA programs.
  • Actively participates in and upholds the YMCAs mission to be open and accessible to everyone, regardless of financial situation or special need. Contributes time to raise funds for this worthy and necessary endeavor by supporting the Ys Annual Giving and Capital Development campaigns.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older. (16 years old for summer staff & part time)
  • Must have experience working with children ages infants 12 years old.
  • Annual training in infant/child CPR and CT. First Aid is recommended.
  • Must demonstrate a love for children and enjoy working with them.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to work with children.
