Position Summary:

Oversees the day-to-day operation, maintenance and upkeep of the Club's Pools. Responsibilities include but are not limited to enforcing policies and procedures, which ensure efficient and effective operation of pool facilities including personnel management, testing, hiring, training and certification of staff. Duties involve all swimming pool operations, including first aid, rotations, scheduling for staff, Member relations, janitorial duties, pool maintenance including daily chemical analysis/testing, pool cleaning, cleaning of bathrooms & Member pool deck areas and all other duties as necessary or required. This employee should have excellent organizational, communication, and Member relation skills. This is a working supervisory position requiring weekend and holiday work.

Examples of work (essential functions)

• Prepare all work schedules for employees making sure the manager or head lifeguard is on duty at all times the pool is open

• Oversees recruitment, training, certification and performance of all Aquatics employees.

• Oversees the maintenance of the pools to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance including Chemical analysis and application

• Ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; ensures pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation.

• Participates in and teaches aquatic and safety certification training sessions, as necessary

• Insure employees under his/her direct supervision are properly trained in their duties

• Hold monthly training & safety meetings for all employees under his/her direct supervision

• Develops and maintains records of operational facility usage; monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies. Insures proper operating condition of all equipment

• Handle first aid problems

• Maintain staff rotations and staff breaks

• Maintain discipline at the swimming pool facility and supervises all staff enforcing staff policies and rules

• Participates in the development of the annual operating budgets and prepares monthly departmental reports for the General Manager.

• Document and reports all disciplinary problems and accidents to the General Manager- reports will be neat and concise

• Maintain a clean facility including but not limited to bathrooms, trash picked up in and outside of facility, pool vacuumed a minimum of 2 times per week, more as needed

• Set a positive example for the rest of the staff to follow

• Will assist with the opening and closing of the Club's Facilities as the "Manager on Duty" as scheduled

• Ensures supplies are ordered and equipment is repaired in a timely manner.

• Participates in "Weekly Managerial Meetings."

• Other duties as deemed necessary or as required.

 

Education & Experience: Prefer candidates with significant knowledge and experience in pool management operations. Bachelor's Degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification; American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR/AED Instructor Certification; National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool Operator Certification.

Skills: The ability to follow department policies and procedures and to concentrate on tasks in the presence of distractions. Be able to understand and follow instructions. This employee should have the ability to provide instructions to employees under his/her supervision and have excellent organizational, public relation, oral and written communication skills. This employee must have knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory. Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools. Ability to recruit, train and certify lifeguards and others. Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating a large, multi-pool aquatic facility. Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards.

Problem Solving: Problem solving is a factor in this position. Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Working Conditions: Manual labor is required. Requires the handling of average-weight objects up to 35 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve extreme weather conditions, extreme temperature, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises and working with chemicals are factors in this position.

Physical Requirements: Physical exertions to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy objects. Climbing in and out of the swimming pool, up and down ladders.  Employee should have the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of verbal and written communication as well as the ability to convey detailed or important instructions to other employees and the general public.
