Position Summary:
The Director of Education and Outreach will report to the Chief Executive Officer and provide strategic leadership, efficient management, and supervision of all educational and outreach programs at The Rowan Center. This role includes overseeing community prevention education, fostering community partnerships, and supporting operational and strategic goals. The Director will ensure the agency meets its mission of supporting survivors of sexual violence and eliminating sexual violence through education and outreach.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
- Provide leadership, expertise, and accountability for all education and outreach programs.
- Supervise and support education and outreach staff, including performance evaluation, training, and mentoring.
- Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to align programming with organizational goals.
- Develop and evaluate staff job responsibilities, annual goals, and performance in collaboration with senior management.
Community Education and Prevention
- Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programming for varied audiences, including Pre-K through college students, parents, teachers, and community professionals.
- Conduct presentations and trainings on topics such as sexual violence prevention, healthy relationships, and trauma-informed care for schools, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and other community groups.
- Oversee the creation and revision of curricula for in-person and virtual formats to meet community needs.
- Lead the agency’s Student Advisory Board, supporting high school students in prevention activities.
Outreach and Relationship Management
- Develop and implement a comprehensive outreach strategy with measurable goals and timelines.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, universities, and healthcare providers to strengthen the coordinated response to sexual violence.
- Represent The Rowan Center at community events, fairs, and professional meetings.
- Ensure the promotion of education programs and outreach efforts across the community.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee compliance with contractual standards, including data integrity, timely reporting, and delivery of services.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to ensure the financial sustainability of programs.
- Monitor program effectiveness through evaluation tools and recommend improvements as necessary.
- Support development staff with data and narratives for grant writing and reporting.
Volunteer and Community Engagement
- Develop, implement, and evaluate volunteer hotline training and other community-based initiatives.
- Serve as the primary contact for workshops, school programming, and community training requests.
Additional Duties
- Provide backup coverage for the 24/7 hotline, including in-person accompaniment at hospitals or police stations.
- Participate in agency staff and board meetings, development events, and professional trainings.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal legislative requirements for programming.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, public health, social work, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5-7 years of experience in a leadership role, managing education or outreach programs.
- Proven ability to build and maintain community partnerships and lead diverse teams.
- Excellent verbal, written, and public speaking skills.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking abilities.
- Commitment to The Rowan Center’s mission and values.
- Completion of The Rowan Center’s 40-hour sexual assault crisis counseling certification (or ability to complete upon hire).
- Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Satisfactory completion of a background check.
Working Conditions:
This position requires flexibility, including some evening and weekend hours, to meet the needs of the community. The Director may need to provide in-person support at hospitals, schools, or community events within the eight towns served by The Rowan Center.
