As a Shipping Supervisor, you will supervise forklift drivers in the Shipping Department, schedule truck drivers’ runs, and handle all aspects of overseeing shipping duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Schedule truck drivers’ runs in the most cost-efficient and time-saving manner possible as well as planning and scheduling all outside vendor loads.
- Supervise Forklift Operators in the daily routine of loading trucks neatly and to the customers satisfaction. Includes enforcing corrective action procedures when applicable and conduct meetings with the violating employees, establishing high morale within the department by showing fairness, consistency, and showing interest in employee issues and maintaining confidentiality.
- Attend daily scheduling meetings and assist the Plant Schedulers in meeting our customer requirements.
- Prepare work orders and coordinate repairs of trailers, forklifts, dock plates, dock doors, and other necessary repairs in the Shipping areas.
- Coordinate with Sales regarding the delivery of the customer orders on time.
- Work with specialty sales in receiving and transporting orders.
- Keep upper management informed of problems or situations that may affect the performance of your department.
- Conduct weekly production/safety meetings with shipping personnel.
- Adhere to daily production schedule.
- Make recommendations for optimizing the schedule to meet cost, quality, delivery, and service goals.
- Communicate with necessary supervision to avoid problems between shift changes.
- Improve career skills by attending seminars, technical courses, and related college courses with approval of your manager.
- Develop strong rapport with various freight lines.
- Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, including good housekeeping.
- Manage and maintain accurate inventory.
- Negotiating freight rates and schedule all LTL loads and ensure accounts payable has a copy of the invoice after verified through carriers’ website.
- Verifying Delivery Receipts for invoicing/receiving before they are invoiced by Accounting.
- Coordinating appointments for scrap/recycle materials at the mills and other recycle vendors as needed.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Additional duties as assigned by management.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Office: Outlook, Excel, & Word.
- Ability to read and interpret financial statements, general business periodicals, operation instructions, regulatory laws and manuals, procedure materials, and SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence effectively and accurately.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with customers, vendors, and employees of the company.
- Strong mathematical skills - using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, tax, percentages, freight costs, accruals, etc…
- Ability to solve practical problems and not so practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Leadership attributes – superior time management skills including the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently. The ability to lead an effective and efficient meeting.
- Superior communication and teaching skills to function effectively as a teacher/coach/mentor for your employees.
- Proven experience as a manager/supervisor in shipping or logistics.
- Excellent employee relations skills.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two or more years’ experience as a Forklift Operator and/or Truck Driver
- Two or more years’ experience as a Manager or Supervisor in Shipping/Logistics
- College and or related technical experience
- Prior work experience in the corrugated industry
