About the Team

OpenAI’s Global Affairs team leads efforts to build trust and understanding of OpenAI’s work among policymakers and key stakeholders worldwide. Internally, the team helps foster understanding of how policymakers, responding to public concerns about risks, approach AI regulation.

The Global Ideas & Insights Team within Global Affairs monitors global sentiment, develops ideas to amplify our key messages, and creates compelling content to communicate effectively with policymakers and the public.

About the Role

The Global Ideas & Insights Team seeks an Editorial Director who is an exceptional editor, team leader, and strategic thinker. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of how public policy is made and how political campaigns are run, expertise in editorial production, and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.

Reporting to the Head of Global Ideas & Insights, your responsibilities will include :

  • Planning, concepting, managing, and editing content for policymaker and public audiences, including op-eds, reports, blog / social posts, video content, polling updates, and briefing documents.
  • Maintaining an editorial calendar aligned with key company initiatives, milestones, and external developments.
  • Collaborating across teams to create positive news-making moments, emphasizing the strategic use of polling and first-party data.
  • Contributing to the evolution of themes and messaging, adapting to shifts in public sentiment and federal and state policies.

As OpenAI pioneers cutting-edge generative AI technologies, you will navigate new challenges and evolving company needs.

In this fast-paced environment, flexibility is key. You will manage dynamic editorial needs and deadlines, resolve tensions, and ensure technical rigor is balanced with accessibility for diverse audiences, including policymakers and opinion leaders.

This collaborative role will involve leveraging strengths across OpenAI’s Communications, Marketing, Legal, and Product teams.

  • Are an experienced editor and leader with a proven ability to align diverse perspectives and stakeholder requirements while meeting editorial goals.
  • Are passionate about seizing opportunities presented by current events to make big and complex ideas and data accessible for broad audiences, and about presenting the right information to the right audiences in the right ways.
  • Are extremely organized and comfortable tracking fast-moving external circumstances, evolving message pull-through, and a range of details to make sure that every nuance in multiple simultaneous content efforts and initiatives reflect the right balance of interests.
  • Are deeply interested in the promise and risks of technology and artificial intelligence, and committed to thoughtful communication.

  • Location : This role is based in Washington, DC, with regular travel to participate in meetings and events with key stakeholders.
