Our paid time off accruals for annual and sick leave are as followed: 0-3 years of service = 2 hours of annual & sick per 40 hours worked; 3-9 years of service = 3 hours of annual & sick per 40 hours worked; 10 years or more of service = 4 hours of annual & sick per 40 hours worked. Plus, you get 16 hours of personal time per calendar year (prorated based on your start date, resets every Jan.1). We also have Bereavement, Longevity, Fitness, and maternity/paternity leave.

Contractual employees receive 40 hours of contractual management leave on top of regular accruals of annual and sick leave.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of Tribal Administration, responsible for the management, coordination, and administration of all Tribal Operations Facilities, which include Public Works, Space Cost, Energy Services, and Recycling program. Supervise, assign, and direct a staff of professional and clerical support in the design, planning, inspection and contract administration for facilities maintenance and operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct all Tribal Operations Facilities personnel in achieving the goals for the department: oversee the facilities team to include efficient staffing, team member development and training, performance management, disciplinary action and policy enforcement.
  • Must have operating knowledge of Facility Operations, Facilities Maintenance, Construction, Heating and Cooling systems, Energy, Recycling, Heavy Equipment, Roads, Walks and Grounds, and Preventative Maintenance.
  • Prepare and maintain departmental and program operational budgets.
  • Manage and approve the purchase of equipment, materials and supplies within budget.
  • Participate in all construction projects for SCIT.
  • Conduct contract review and scheduling for multiple service contracts; manage outside contracts and contractors to ensure maximum results and to control costs.
  • Manage all activities of the Tribal Operations facilities department, which may include conducting interviews and selections of hire, maintain schedules, conduct evaluations and offer coaching/corrective action when necessary.
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of all Tribal Operations facilities and equipment to include a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
  • Participate in Negotiation agreements for all tribal government utility needs as not all growth is on Trust lands.
  • Member of the Tribal Emergency Response Team.
  • Meet with other tribal departmental personnel, contractors, architects and engineers to integrate and coordinate proposed Tribal construction and maintenance projects.
  • Maintain a safe environment for Tribal Operations guests and employees.
  • Assist all other Tribal Operations departments with the development and implementation of emergency procedures and the implementation of a safety program.
  • Create, maintain, update and implement policies and procedures manual for the Tribal Operations Facilities Department; ensure adherence to all policies and procedures.
  • Present reports on the Tribal Operations facilities department activities on a monthly basis or as required.
  • Review and approve payroll and timekeeping.
  • Assist with investigating associate and patron accidents related to buildings, grounds or equipment.
  • Train and develop the Tribal Operations facilities management team to prepare them for greater responsibility and career development.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.

  • Contact with management to develop teamwork and open lines of communication for a smooth and efficient running department.
  • Contact with all department heads in order to communicate functions of the department that may affect other areas of business.
  • Contact with the general public, federal and state officials and vendors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Management, Trade, or related field.
  • Five (5) years progressive facilities management in a large complex.
  • Three (3) years in a supervisory capacity level.
  • An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
  • Excellent computer and strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Experience in effectively planning, organizing, and directing employees toward desired results.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management, Construction, Engineering, Utilities or related field.
  • Construction experience.
  • Professional certification or trade license.

License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License, with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties, and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier. A tribal Driver’s License will also be required if a Motor Pool Vehicle is used in the course and scope of the required job duties.
  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic computer operations and software.
  • Knowledge of applicable Tribal, federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used in building, cleaning, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safe working practices, and safety precautions in accordance with applicable state, county, or federal laws and regulations regarding workplace safety.
  • Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Skill in managing budgets, multiple projects and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Skill in supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Ability to learn the methods of cleaning and caring for buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to represent organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence in the community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
  • Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and reach with arms and hands.
  • Requires long hours of standing, stooping, bending, and climbing.
  • Occasionally sit, balance, kneel, couch or crawl.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Normal office and outside environment and construction sites.
  • Exposure to dirt and dust from project work areas; wet and damp areas; cramped and close work areas; and working around operating equipment with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic hazards requiring usage of safe work practices.
  • Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials.
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  • Travel is required.
