This is a Temporary/Seasonal position from 6/2/25 to 8/22/25
Schedule for the position is Monday - Friday from 7:30am - 5:30pm

Summary/Primary Purpose: The Head Counselor is responsible for program and counseling leadership for assigned counselors and approximately 40 campers. This role assists in General Staff Orientation and in implementing all rules to all program staff members during the summer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- This position is required to adhere to and enforce all camp policies, procedures and safety regulations, always making camper and staff safety a priority and know where assigned staff are all at times.
- Attend/Assist with general staff training week, and read all material mailed prior to training week.
- Provide leadership as Head Counselor to Counselors and campers per session.
- Assist with transportation of campers/staff.
- Monitor daily time off for Counselor.
- Provides leadership and direction to an assigned group of campers in daily activities, which include, but are not limited to:
- Present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the campers by conducting devotions, prayer time, and Bible class.
- Provide spiritual direction to the campers as needed and record all accounts of a young person accepting Christ or requesting prayer.
- Instruction/guidance in care of property, personal hygiene, table manners and conduct in the dining hall
- Participate in and attend all staff meetings, devotions, outings, and worship services.
- Attend to pre-camp preparation of Program: office, equipment, recreation areas, and lodging.
- Assist in leading camp clean-up at the close of each camp, in preparation for the next day.
- Assist with camper check-in and check-out.
- Supervise the maintaining of camp: doors locked, and camp guidelines, to all counseling staff members during camp sessions and days off.
- Supervise staff lounge area for cleanliness and appropriate behavior.
- Assist camp leadership in conducting staff devotions.
- Driving is an essential function of this role.
- All other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is responsible for seven counselors.
Education and/or Experience: Minimum three years of college preferred with a preference for 6 months related experience in a personal relationship with Christ and working with youth.
Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.
- Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
- Basic skills in Microsoft software along with the ability to access payroll, timekeeping, and personal data via a web-based system.
- Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to detail and filing.
- Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to create a Christian atmosphere and support the infusion of Christian Outreach through the programming.
- This individual must be of good character, mature and able to uphold the Christian standards and ministries of The Salvation Army in all areas of job responsibilities.
Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Safe From Harm, CPR and First Aid.
