Job Description:
As the Utility Assistance Program Specialist, you will provide support and resources to families and individuals in Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Posey Counties in partnership with CenterPoint Energy and other community organizations. The position coordinates emergency financial utility services across southwest Indiana ensuring that the mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.
What You Will Do:
- Schedule and conduct appointments for utility assistance.
- Connect individuals to local Salvation Army programs and services.
- Implement strengths-based and client-centered case management skills to identify client strengths, identify sufficiency goals and barriers to those goals, and implement strategies to achieve those goals.
- Maintain a current list of referral sources throughout the service area and surrounding counties to ensure that available appropriate resources are provided to clients as they work toward completing their sufficiency goals.
- Complete and maintain required electronic and paper documentation for clients and resources in SIMS, Charity Tracker, or other reporting systems by Salvation Army reporting Policies and Procedures and funders' standards.
- Network with other social service providers throughout the service area.
- Represent The Salvation Army at public functions as requested and determined to be appropriate.
- Make budgetary recommendations to the Social Services Manager.
- Attend divisional training as requested, identify pertinent community training opportunities, requesting permission to attend as schedule and budget allow.
- Ensure compliance and practice of The Salvation Army National Social Services Standards.
- Other tasks as assigned by leadership
Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate degree in Human or Social Services (or related field) preferred.
Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.
Experience: Minimum of two years' experience in case management services.
Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must complete Case Worker Certification Program within 120 days of employment; Must complete SIMS data entry and/or completion of data entry procedures within 60 days of employment.
Skills/Abilities:
- Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to assist clients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Albe to work in a fast-paced environment as this role will assist a large volume of applications for assistance.
- Able to thrive in a remote environment and demonstrate strong communication, adaptability, and self-motivation skills.
- Provide guidance and promote the spiritual dimension of Salvation Army social services programs, emphasizing the importance of Christian influence and evangelism in all Salvation Army ministries, including delivery of social services in contemporary settings.

Occasional in-person attendance is required for staff meetings, trainings, and networking events. Standard work hours align with business operations, though flexibility may be needed based on client needs. This role involves frequent computer use, phone communication, and virtual meetings.
