The Youth Development Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing youth and family ministry programs that align with The Salvation Army's mission. This position will focus on evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development, ensuring that youth are engaged in faith-based programs that promote spiritual growth, character building, and service. The coordinator will work closely with Corps Officers and volunteers to create a thriving and sustainable youth ministry.

About the role:

Youth Ministry Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and oversee structured youth programs, including Youth Nights, Corps Cadets, Junior Soldiers, and Character-Building programs.
  • Develop and facilitate Bible-based discipleship and leadership training for youth and volunteers.
  • Establish mentoring relationships to support spiritual and personal development.
  • Train and equip volunteer leaders to ensure effective youth ministry programs.
  • Engage youth in The Salvation Army distinctive programs, including service and outreach opportunities.
  • Organize youth-led service projects and mission initiatives.
  • Provide individual spiritual guidance to youth and families.
  • Coordinate with divisional and territorial youth leaders to incorporate best practices and resources into programming.
  • Ensure that Safe From Harm guidelines are followed at all times

Family and Community Engagement

  • Engage with parents and caregivers to foster family participation in youth programs.
  • Develop and maintain a database of youth and families involved in The Salvation Army.
  • Plan and implement family-focused activities to strengthen parent-child engagement in faith-based learning.
  • Collaborate with local schools, social services, and community partners to enhance youth support services.
  • Assist with outreach events, community engagement initiatives, and seasonal programs such as Christmas Intake, Distribution, Kettles, and Coats for Kids.

Leadership Development

  • Train youth in leadership roles within the corps and community.
  • Establish a leadership pipeline to help youth transition into active service and leadership within The Salvation Army.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and coaching to emerging youth leaders.
  • Organize leadership retreats, discipleship workshops, and training opportunities.
  • Facilitate volunteer development and coordination to strengthen youth programming.

Evaluation and Reporting

  • Track program participation, volunteer engagement, and youth development milestones.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from youth, families, and volunteers to assess program impact.
  • Submit regular reports to Corps Officers detailing program effectiveness and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure all ministry efforts align with The Salvation Army's Territorial Youth Imperative focusing on evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development.

Education: -Associate degree in a relevant field required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Relevant training and experience in lieu of formal education will be considered.

Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment.

Experience: Minimum two years' experience in youth ministries, mentorship, or program leadership. Strong background in evangelism and discipleship.

Full-time employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week will be eligible for full benefits, including health, dental, vision and hearing benefits, basic and voluntary life benefits, holiday pay and paid time off, which is pro-rated based on their regularly scheduled work week.

Exempt Employees: Health, dental, vision, and hearing benefits, as well as basic and voluntary life benefits, will begin on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.
