General Purpose of Job
The Ministry Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Corps Officers by assisting with the development, planning, and execution of various programs within the corps. This position focuses on fostering a long-term strategy to cultivate current and future corps leadership. Responsibilities extend across multiple areas of ministry, including teaching, leading youth and young adult programs, providing pastoral care, coordinating outreach efforts, and supporting social services. Additionally, the Ministry Assistant will contribute to the overall spiritual leadership of the corps, working under the direction of the Corps Officers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Ministry Assistant will work closely with the Corps Officers to implement and oversee key ministry programs, including but not limited to:
- Program Development & Implementation:
- Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of various ministry programs.
- Support after-school programs, with a focus on connecting students to discipleship opportunities.
- Help coordinate summer youth ministries, including recruitment for camps and Vacation Bible School.
- Participate in social and evangelical ministry programs to extend community outreach.
- Leadership & Event Coordination:
- Provide leadership at corps events, including promotion, registration, coordination, and transportation logistics.
- Collaborate with community partners and schools to strengthen Salvation Army programming and recruit volunteers.
- Develop and lead a young adult ministry, working alongside Corps Officers to foster engagement and growth.
- Assist in implementing a comprehensive leadership training program, including workshops, individual coaching, and resource distribution.
- Volunteer Management:
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support various corps programs and ministries.
- Ensure all volunteers adhere to The Salvation Army’s guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Social Services & Pastoral Support:
- Provide assistance with social services ministries, including outreach and support programs.
- Serve as an active member of the Corps Council, sharing updates, needs, and strategic plans for ministry initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Corps Officers to support the mission and ministry of the Corps.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a uniformed Salvationist in good standing.
- Maintain a lifestyle that aligns with biblical standards in both personal and professional life, including social media presence and financial stewardship (tithing) to support Corps ministries.
- Exhibit strong leadership, self-motivation, and innovation in ministry initiatives.
- Hold a valid Maine driver’s license and be willing to drive a 12-passenger vehicle.
- Possess a minimum of a four-year degree in a related field OR a two-year degree with at least two years of experience working with youth.
- Complete all required KeepSAfe abuse risk management training, as defined by the KeepSAfe policy and assigned by the supervisor.
