Custodian-NE_Administration-101 Location: The Salvation Army – Tupelo, MS   Position Title: CUSTODIAN   Position Type: Part-time     About this opportunity:   Cleans and maintains the buildings and grounds to ensure the neatness and cleanliness of the same on a daily basis. Responsibilities include: This position description should not be interpreted as all inclusive.  It is intended to identify the major responsibilities and requirements of this position.  The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position description. Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies. Sweeps, vacuums, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks. Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures. Empties trash cans regularly; collects trash from grounds. Assists in setting up meeting rooms; sets up tables and chairs; puts ice in glasses and sets out drinks. Assists in monitoring light fixtures to ensure all light bulbs are in working order; replaces light bulbs as necessary. Removes donations deliveries from the reception area and hallways and places donations in the storage shed.; may assist the public in unloading and carrying donations. Waxes tile floors.   OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitors the activities of the Feeding Program when the officers are not available; notifies officers of any unique situations occurring on assigned shift.  Responds to emergencies in a calm manner and initiates appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Raises and lowers all flags daily; displays special signs as needed. Assists in performing building maintenance and repair work. Assists in performing grounds-keeping work. Assists in performing housekeeping work at lodge/shelter. Assists in stocking and sorting pantry items May drive Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver miscellaneous items or to transport passengers. Assists in performing Christmas and special projects/events such as the pick-up and delivery of toys; assists in setting-up and breaking-down the Distribution Center. Assists in cleaning vehicles. Assists in monitoring Center of Hope reception desk, when requested by Director. Assists in preparing/building/setting up items/areas for Church events. Notifies Operations Director of any/all supplies or repairs needed at Corps building or grounds. Performs other related work as required.   MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Cleaning Supplies, Equipment & Tools What we are looking for in you: No formal education or experience required, six months experience performing general housekeeping duties, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to perform general maintenance and cleaning activities for buildings and grounds. Ability to follow instructions and work independently.   MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read and communicate the English language. Ability to exert the physical energy required to performing housekeeping and minor maintenance work. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing.     WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt and dust, and/or disagreeable sights and odors.
