THE SALVATION ARMY JOB DESCRIPTION     Job Title: Program Aide Employee Name:   Department: Boys & Girls Club Location: High Point, NC   Job Family: Recreation   FLSA: Non-exempt   Reports to: Boys and Girls Club Director     Direct Reports: None   Revision Date: April 29, 2020   Job Summary Work in an after-school and summer program that aligns in-school and out-of-school learning, provides academic support and enrichment opportunities through high yield learning activities. Programming includes character and leadership development and utilizes anti-gang and anti-drug curriculum. Program Aides deliver programming in Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles. Program Aides are expected to leverage volunteers and other community resources, and engage parents to enhance programming. Program Aides will maintain the integrity of the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of High Point’s mission and goals demonstrating the Club culture and values at all times.   Essential Functions This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.   Implement and deliver relevant after school programming for youth, ages 6-18 that supports the Clubs priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles.   Recruit, encourage and engage youth participants.    Create a safe environment that facilitates learning and is encouraging and engaging for children.   Leading and engaging volunteers on a daily basis as well as special events.    Responsible for daily set-up and clean-up of all materials used during the program.    Steward relationships with volunteers, school staff and parents.      Monitor and evaluate, on an ongoing basis, programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality of programs and utilization of resources.    Provide regular updates on site challenges, opportunities and best practices.    Implement after school program assessment tools.   Implement special event programs for parents, teachers and the broader community.   Maintain the Club facility and enforce all site operating expectations.   Implement summer programming as needed.   Respond according to procedure for emergency and disciplinary situations.         Maintain current first aid and CPR certification and ensure equipment/kits/materials are maintained and available.   Participate in special programs, events and summer programming as needed.   Participate in weekly staff meetings.   Prepare assessments of student participants   Assess facility needs and perform janitorial duties or manual labor as needed – mopping, cleaning tables, trash-removal, moving equipment etc.   May be required, based upon site needs, to perform job duties at an alternate site location   May be required to escort youth on bus   Materials and Equipment Computer skills, Word, Publisher and Excel   Copier    Fax machine   General Office Supplies   Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to motivate and engage youth and manage behavioral challenges with peer mediation.   Ability to effectively communicate with youth, parents, staff, volunteers, and teachers.   Ability to adapt to changes in a highly energetic work environment.   Ability to work in fast paced environment and be flexible.   Ability to meet attendance requirements.   Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquires, and to make entries on reports and records.   Must pass background check and drug testing.   Certifications: Must maintain a valid driver’s license.   Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.   Education and Experience High school diploma or some college coursework preferred.   Minimum 2 years’ experience in tutoring and mentoring children or youth.           Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Must be able to sit, stand, walk and climb stairs, lift 25 pounds and carry items as needed throughout the work day.   Driving and light lifting.   Work is usually performed in various different atmosphere, primarily in group or “classroom” settings. There is some physical requirement required as part of our focus is encouraging physical activity among club members.   Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like   Statement of Purpose This document provides descriptive information about the above Salvation Army position.
