What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Camp Counselor ( Float Staff) position at The Salvation Army Western PA Division?
Summary
As a Camp Counselor (Float Staff Member) with The Salvation Army, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children at our summer camp programs. Your contributions will help foster personal growth, teamwork, and positive experiences for all campers. The Float Staff Member will be responsible for all facets of the implementation of the Cobham Youth Program Summer Day Camp. The float will help in different groups as needed and will be placed at the discretion of the director. The float will often be utilized in areas where an extra staff person would be helpful or when a camper may need one on one supervision or needs a short break from the group for an emotional or behavioral reset.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Helping team leaders to implement planned activities.
- Proper supervision of youth while maintaining a safe and structured environment at all times.
- Participation with students during all activities.
- Provision of medical attention in the event of injury.
- Maintain good stewardship practices in care of equipment, facilities and grounds.
- Maintain strong Christian witness and example to youth.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
It is required that all employees maintain a high-level of professionalism in the workplace, wearing appropriate clothing, maintaining confidentiality of information, completing responsibilities in an efficient manner, being courteous and pleasant in dealing with others, respectful and loyal to supervisor(s) and upholding the Mission of The Salvation Army.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (offered during orientation)
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Passion to help disadvantaged youth.
- Good communication skills.
- All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
- PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army’s KeepSAfe training required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Previous employment or volunteer experience working with youth and leading activities.
- High School Diploma or working towards one.
