What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Day Camp Counselor ( Lead) position at The Salvation Army Western PA Division?
Summary
As a Camp Counselor Team Lead with The Salvation Army, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and engaging environment for children during camp activities. This position is essential in fostering personal growth, teamwork, and fun while supporting our mission of service to those in need. The Team Leader will be responsible for all facets of the implementation of the Cobham Youth Program Summer Day Camp, primarily the supervision of their team members and youth and leadership of activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Helping the Director in planning the daily activities.
- Direct supervision of their team members
- Proper supervision of youth while maintaining a safe and structured environment at all times.
- Participation with students during all activities.
- Teaching and implementation of lessons and activities (ie: arts and crafts, recreation, devotions).
- Provision of medical attention in the event of injury and completion of injury report form.
- Maintain good stewardship practices in care of equipment, facilities and grounds.
- Assist with transportation and completion of mileage reports as requested
- Maintain strong Christian witness and example to youth.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
It is required that all employees maintain a high level of professionalism in the workplace, wearing appropriate clothing, maintaining confidentiality of information, completing responsibilities in an efficient manner, being courteous and pleasant in dealing with others, respectful and loyal to supervisor(s) and upholding the Mission of The Salvation Army.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Certification in First Aid and CPR (offered during orientation)
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Passion to help disadvantaged youth
- Good communication skills
- All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
- PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army’s KeepSAfe training required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Previous employment or volunteer experience working with youth and leading activities
- High School Diploma & a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a child/youth related setting
