What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ministry Assistant position at The Salvation Army Western PA Division?
The Salvation Army's Pittsburgh Temple is hiring a Ministry Assistant. The Ministry Assistant will coorindate with the officers and other staff to build corps ministries, assist in social services, and maintain stewardship of the building.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Program Activities:
- Assist in planning, set up and execution of all corps programming.
- Assist with the coordination of Sunday ministry: adult Bible study/Sunday School, youth programs in discipleship programming outreach.
- Assist with recruitment of volunteers and participants in all corps programming.
- Prepare and conduct corps programs as assigned by the corps officers.
- Work with corps officers and community to plan, manage, and attend community events.
- Responsible for encouraging participation and taking part in divisional functions and activities.
- Assist in maintaining statistical records and any reports for all activity conducted.
- Work with Social Services personnel to link clients to corps programs and worship opportunities.
- Pick up and drop off program participants in 12 passenger van as needed
- Assist the social worker with the summer Allegheny Camps (including taking kids to camp)
- Maintain proper receipts and accounting procedures for any Salvation Army expenses as required by The Salvation Army accounting guides.
- Make certain that all Salvation Army owned/rented property and equipment is maintained and kept in good order seeing that areas are kept neat, clear of clutter and clean.
- Serve on call as appropriate and as needed
Practical responsibilities:
- Assist in the maintenance and tidiness of all program areas.
- Be responsible for facility and equipment security making sure that all Salvation Army property is secure.
- Maintain good stewardship practices in care of equipment, facilities, and grounds.
- Responsible for safety and well-being of participants in all programming and services.
Office Responsibilities:
- Maintain proper statistics for all programs and services provided.
- Provide reports as needed.
- Keep regular office hours for preparation of programs and activities.
- Assist with answering phones and provide client assistance as needed.
- Thank you letters.
- Work with corps officers to provide transportation scheduled activities.
Other
- Must have the ability to work weekends and evenings.
- Must have the ability to work during the busy times of the year.
- Perform other duties as assigned by corps officers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must possess great communication skills, written & oral.
- Must possess basic office skills including use of computer.
- Must be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds, bend, and reach frequently.
- All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
- PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army’s KeepSAfe training required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- HS Diploma
- Experience working in a ministry setting is preferred.
- Prior work experience with children and adults in a recreational and/or educational setting is preferred.
