What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at The Salvation Army Western PA Division?
Job Summary:
The Counselor will be responsible for all facets of the implementation of the Youth Program Summer Day Camp, primarily the supervision of youth and activities.
This position will operate during the summer day camp season starting June 2nd and ending August 1st.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in implementing Summer Day Camp under the Director’s leadership.
- Proper supervision of youth while maintaining a safe and structured environment at all times.
- Participation with students during all activities.
- Assist with the teaching and implementation of lessons and activities (i.e. arts, recreation, devotions, etc.).
- Assist with snack and meal distribution
- Attend all field trips and other outings
- Maintain good stewardship practices in care of equipment, facilities and grounds
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Passion to help disadvantaged youth
- Good communication skills
- All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
- PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army's KeepSAfe training required.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma - or working towards one
- Previous employment or volunteer experience working with youth and leading activities
