What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Director position at The Salvation Army Western PA Division?
The Summer Day Camp Director is responsible to plan and implement the Summer Day Camp program, ensuring that all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the camp run smoothly, primarily through the supervision of campers and IUP work study students, as well as the planning and supervision of all activities.
The Camp Director position will operate full-time starting May 19th and will run through August 1st, 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement daily camp schedule and activities
- Recruit, coordinate and supervise Day Camp staff and volunteers
- Coordinate and schedule day camp field trips, special guests, and special events
- Provide proper supervision of campers and staff while maintaining a safe and structured environment at all times
- Teach and implement lessons and activities (i.e. education lesson plans, arts, recreation, devotions, etc.)
- Create pre and post-testing in various academic subjects
- Participate with campers during activities
- Take attendance and maintain program statistics
- Oversee meal pickup and distribution
- Assist with transportation and completion of mileage report as requested.
- Create camp newsletters and communicate with parents/guardians as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Represent the Salvation Army positively in the community
- Maintain good stewardship practices in care of equipment, facilities and grounds
- Will be the main point of communication with parents
- Attend Recruitment events as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Skills and abilities in working with children grades K-12.
- Ability to lead groups and activities.
- Experience working with children or educational settings.
- Good organization and communication skills.
- Ability to lead others and work together as a team
- All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
- PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army's KeepSAfe training required.
Education and Experience:
- Valid PA Driver’s License
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred or at least 2 years’ experience working directly with children.
