Job Summary

Cultivates corporate businesses or organizations and foundation to solicit funds and gifts-in-kind for Area Command; cultivates and solicits from existing corporate donors, as well as developing portfolios of new corporate donors as assigned by the Immediate Supervisor; performs corporate and foundation file analysis, caseload and goal setting, packaging of program offerings and opportunities.

Corporate Relations and Giving Responsibilities (50%)

Maintains record of each corporate donor and coordinates the recognition of each corporate donor; develops target markets and opportunities for program involvement; requests financial donations from corporate and organizations based on The Salvation Army’s needs; develops all corporate giving marketing materials and programs; conducts public speaking to promote corporate giving as requested.

Establishes and coordinates corporate in-kind donations tracking system; research in-kind donation requests and attempts to obtain the items needed for free or at a reduced rate.

Coordinates with members of the Development Department to ensure appropriateness of marketing, print material, and solicitation of corporate and organizational communication pieces; writes, edits, and proofreads proposals and reports to funders and supporters.

Oversees the preparation of all corporate giving correspondence including thank you letters and recognition.

Represents The Salvation Army at public functions and events when called upon, plus provides programs and participates in speaking engagements or presentation of donated gifts as needed.

Assists appropriate officers or staff personnel in implementation of the development plan and funding recommendations using approved procedures for requests from field units for funding.

Collaborates with the Immediate Supervisor in utilizing The Research Center or the Texas Division in developing funding prospects for the command; performs duties both independently and with Center support; assists local area command units with research for funding grants, donor profiles for major gifts, trends and other information pertinent to the work of The Salvation Army.

Oversees and manages the corporate grants that result from the developed proposals for funding appropriate programs following the approved Area Command procedures for grant processing.

Strategic Planning and Evaluation Responsibilities (20%)

Plans, develops and executes programs, associated with the cultivation of organizational alliances, sponsorships, philanthropic giving, matching donation and other funding opportunities to engage potential new support or increases support current from organizations through written and verbal communications, as well as in-person visits with potential contributors; secures funds and gifts in-kind by presenting the benefits of a business alliance with The Salvation Army to fulfill the mission of the organization.

Establishes the short- and long-range goals for funding sources; increases The Salvation Army’s base and expands its influence into the corporate community.

Submits a revenue projection plans annually to the Immediate Supervisor.

Participates in the preparation and management of the Grants budget.

Supervisory Responsibilities (20%)

Plans, directs, and supervises the work of assigned staff; trains and instructs employee in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides hiring / firing recommendations.

Administrative Responsibilities (10%)

Prepares and maintains up-to-date records on all corporate donors; prepares timely statistical and activity reports on corporate participation; prepares annual report regarding the status of the corporate relations program.

Maintains a Corporate Foundation calendar of submittal dates, reporting and compliance needs and timeline, and records progress on grant requests.

Maintains and updates computer files and hard files on corporations and organizations.

Other Responsibilities :

Supports and assists when needed in special event planning.

Assists in coordinating and managing special recognition projects and / or programs.

Attends ongoing training and participates in professional organizations to ensure The Salvation Army is on the front edge of corporate and community relations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Materials and Equipment :

Personal Computer General Office Equipment

Knowledge, Skillsand Abilities :

Knowledge of the principles and practices of fund-raising.

Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to identify and target corporate donor candidates, as well as build and maintain professional relationships with the same.

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Ability to work with diverse organizations, anticipate and identify donor motivations and motivate them to

donate funds / gifts to The Salvation Army.

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

Education and Experience :

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration or related field,

Three years progressively responsible experience demonstrating record of accomplishment in development,

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Certifications :

Valid State Driver's License

Physical Requirements :

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability to travel throughout the Greater Houston area to meet with corporate representatives.

Ability to perform public speaking.

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Working Conditions :

Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomforts; however, work requires traveling throughout the Houston Metropolitan area which may be associated with changes in weather, traffic or other discomforts.
