SCOPE OF POSITION :
Responsible for teaching children about sailing and other water sports.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
- High School Diploma preferred
- Certified US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor or equivalent
- Powerboat driving experience required with valid Washington or Oregon State boater’s card
- Minimum two years sailing experience
- Excellent sailing skills with the ability to instruct sailing students
- Technical knowledge of sailing
- Some prior teaching experience is preferred
- 2 years sailing and youth sailor coaching experience giving chalk-talks, on-the-water practices, etc.
- Past participation in youth, high school, and / or collegiate programs with a competitive focus
- Technical experience with 420 sailboats or other single / double-handed dinghies
- Responsible, reliable, and enthusiastic with good judgment and class leadership skills
- First Aid and CPR
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Capable of maintaining positive working relationships with staff and students
- Able to interact effectively with a diverse population
