The Savannah Country Day School is seeking a Learning Support Specialist, primarily for high school but potentially serving some students in Middle School, for the 2025-2026 school year. Under the supervision of the Head of Upper School and Director of Learning Support, the Learning Support Specialist provides instruction in and reinforcement of academic strategies for diverse learners.

Qualified candidates should have a passion for helping students to learn about themselves as learners and helping teachers work with diverse learners. A willingness to enter into dialogue about instructional practice with peers and a desire to be involved in a wide range of school activities in and out of the classroom are also essential.

Typical duties and responsibilities may include the following. (This list is not intended to be exhaustive.)

· Maintain an appropriate caseload of students, who receive support and specific strategy instruction in a 1:2 or 1:3 setting, addressing each student’s strengths and needs.

· Share responsibility for arranging and supervising accommodations for students who are “accommodations only” as well as those students whom you serve.

· Read and interpret psychoeducational evaluations and record notes.

· Create, publish, and maintain an official learning profile for each student on your roster.

· Meet with students, parents, dean, counselors, academic team, learning support director, and/or any outside professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists, educational consultants, etc.) to review and explain learning profiles.

· Attend faculty meetings and learning support department meetings.

· Provide professional development opportunities related to diverse learning styles during faculty in-services.

Minimum Qualifications

· Completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Learning Differences/Disabilities Specialist. Master’s degree preferred.

· Three (3) to five (5) years’ teaching experience in special education or as a learning specialist.

· Special Education/Learning Specialist Certification strongly preferred.

· Experience with reading instruction - Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, or similar - preferred.

· Experience working with students with math disabilities.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills and a willingness to function as part of the Learning Support team.

· Sense of humor, flexibility, and a strong desire to work with teenage students.

· Attendance at occasional evening and weekend functions is occasionally required.

Physical Demands
Work is typically performed in an office/classroom environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee occasionally lifts or carries objects of a light-medium weight, up to 25 pounds. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
