What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Teacher position at The School for Young Performers?
The School for Young Performers is looking for an upper elementary/middle school math teacher (PART-TIME) to work with a 5th grader in/near Bernardsville, NJ. The educator will work 4 to 6 hours/week in a fluid classroom construct for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year, with the potential of continuation for the 25/26 school year. The teacher is expected to be able to teach mathematics with breadth, depth, creativity and innovation at the 4th-6th grade level. Additional specializations in science is a plus (will be guaranteed 6 hrs/week if can teach science, too). Hours are day-time, thus this is not an after-school position. Local Hires Only.
Ideal candidates must have the following:
- A MINIMUM of 5 years experience teaching math, preferably in a private school setting for grades 4-7
-A LOVE for teaching
-Teaching certification for K-6 or grades 7-12 for math (strongly preferred)
-Understanding of differentiation, executive functioning skill-buidling, implementation of accommodations, etc for students with learning differences and/or giftedness
-Experience with assessments for Grades 3-6, especially for checking math fluency, prep for private school placement exams (i.e. ISEE and/or SSAT for Grade 6 entry), etc
-Conscientious, creative, engaging, flexible and professional
-Strong handle on keeping pace with curriculum, comfortable with creating lesson plans, assessments, projects and tests
-Experience working 1-on-1, small group classes or in homeschool constructs
-Familiarity and Expertise with Singapore Math, Project-Based Learning, Next Gen Practices in Science
-Strong communication skills with teacher colleagues and administrators
-Understanding and expertise in teaching via Zoom (if/when needed), using Google Classroom, digital grade books, online resources, flipped classrooms, etc
-Ability to create interdisciplinary activities
- Available between 10 am and 2:30 pm (approx; this is a 4 to 6 hr/week position, meaning sessions in-person 3 to 4 times a week in 1.5 to 2 hr blocks)
- Have a personal computer with email/MS Office, a cell phone with access to email, and familiarity/comfort level with Google Classroom, Microsoft Office and online tools
- Be a United States citizen with proper U.S. government documentation OR have a valid green card with permission to work in the U.S.
