POSITION TITLE: Animal Resources Supervisor

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Establishes daily work schedules, documents attendance, and ensures completion of tasks per standard operating procedures. Provides training on facility management, husbandry procedures, and animal health observations. Conducts staff counseling, performance evaluations, and assists in hiring, discipline, and termination decisions.

  • Ensures daily health observations, treatments, and experimental manipulations are completed. Performs physical examinations, treatments, vaccinations, and specialized clinical techniques such as injections, fluid sampling, and tissue harvests.

  • Implements and maintains breeding schemes for specialized rodents, establishes new matings, tracks pregnancies, retires breeders, and completes breeding records.

  • Communicates with research staff regarding animal health, breeding, and regulatory matters. Ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.

  • Compiles monthly billing, maintains all pertinent records, and documents weekly facility quality assurance with appropriate follow-ups.

  • Cleans, sanitizes, and autoclaves cages, equipment, and water bottles. Receives and prepares feed, bedding, and supplies for use.

  • May perform pathology-related tasks, including prosection, clinical pathology, parasitology tests, and laboratory procedures.

  • May conduct tasks in infectious agent quarters, quarantine areas, or biohazard facilities while adhering to strict regulations.

  • Performs other tasks as assigned to support the department's operational and research needs.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a life science, RVT license or LAT certification.
  • Minimum 5 years animal laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the Director.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal relation skills.
  • Must demonstrate competency in technical procedures.
  • Participation in weekend and holiday rotations is required.
  • LATG certification is preferred.

COMPENSATION:

The expected hiring range for this position is $78,000 to $93,600 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
