SUMMER CAMP DIRECTOR
For over 75 years, Sewanee Children’s Center has been a beloved hub of learning, creativity, and adventure for young children. Our summer program is a vital part of that tradition, providing children with an enriching and joyful experience that blends outdoor exploration, creative expression, and social-emotional learning. We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, organized, and responsible Summer Camp Director who is passionate about leading, inspiring, and creating meaningful summer experiences.
Primary responsibilities:
- Lead a dynamic and engaging summer camp program that aligns with SCC’s mission
- Work closely with the current SCC Director to select camp counselors and plan programming.
- Support, coordinate, and supervise summer staff to ensure a safe, enriching environment
- Ensure all Tennessee Department of Human Services (DHS) rules are followed
- Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and board members
- Manage supply purchasing,
- Payroll reporting, and other administrative duties as needed.
- Develop and implement age-appropriate activities that encourage creativity, teamwork, and exploration
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring a smooth and well-organized camp experience
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with and teaching young children
- Curriculum development for young learners
- Prior knowledge and experience with program management
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience
- Ability to inspire, engage and build relationships with staff, children, and parents
- Willingness to submit to a background check and complete required DHS training
Summer 2025 Program Schedule:
The 2025 summer session will be June 2 to July 25, operating Monday through Friday from 7:45 am to 5:00 pm. The Summer Director position begins at least one week before and ends several days after the program concludes.
