What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Teacher position at The Sharing Place Child Care Center?
This is a full-time 40 hours per week Monday-Friday position.
Responsible for working in a collaborative manner with the Program Coordinator, parents and other staff members to implement the daily curriculum for a specified age-group early learning program (i.e. Infants, Toddlers, Pre-School, After-School). Teachers are expected to provide the children in our care with the best possible environment for growth and development.
Requirements of the job include:
1. Be familiar with the daily/monthly curriculum plan and assume designated responsibility for its development and implementation.
2. Work closely with the children to understand each individual child's interests, using these observations to encourage creative expression, problem solving, social growth, love of language and a curiosity and enthusiasm for learning; help children build on existing knowledge to create new knowledge.
3. Orient the program to the individual children with concern for their special needs, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
4. Consider individual children in relation to their cultural, socio-economic and home environments.
5. Utilize developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques.
6. Help children become aware of their roles as important members of a group.
7. Assist children in realizing that materials and supplies are to be used and enjoyed, but not wasted or neglected.
8. Actively participate in maintaining the ordered arrangement, appearance and display of the classroom learning environment.
9. Shared areas should be used with consideration for other groups and colleagues.
10. Treat all children, family members and staff with dignity and respect.
11. Assist the Program Coordinator with planning and implementing methods for effectively utilizing the services of other Teachers, Aides and volunteers.
12. Assist the Program Coordinator with efforts to establish positive relationships with the children's families.
13. Assist the Program Coordinator with implementing program procedures designed to assess the developmental levels of each child.
14. Assist the Program Coordinator with preparation for periodic family conferences held to discuss the adjustment, behavior, growth and development of individual children.
15. In cooperation with the Program Coordinator, assume responsibility for finding substitute staff coverage for times of personal absence.
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age and have graduated from an accredited high school. Preferred qualifications include a Child Development Associate certificate or an Associate degree in early childhood education or related field;
A minimum of one (1) year of supervised experience working with children in a group care environment;
Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to relate sensitively and maturely to both children and adults;
A friendly attitude and demonstrated ability to show personal initiative;
The ability to sit on the floor, lift and carry children (up to 35 lbs.) and participate in the physical activities of young children;
Certification in pediatric first aid including rescue breathing and choking preferred.

Pay: $17.00 - $18.25 per hour
