SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this job position is to be responsible for supporting front of house and back of house culinary operations in skilled nursing and independent living dining areas, and to assure that all quality service standards set by federal, state, and local guidelines is provided at all times. Direct supervision of dining room employees’ day to day task and assignments. Assists in the maintenance of sound inter-departmental relations and the integrating of the Culinary service department with the facility plan of operation. Utilizes The Sharon at SouthPark guiding principles in the execution of the job description. Employees will be managed within the framework of Team-ship and Empowerment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Responsible for creating enjoyable dining experiences for residents and guests.
- Supervises the duties and responsibilities of all service staff in the dining room to ensure proper service and sanitation procedures are followed.
- Act as the Manager on Duty by, including but not limited to, oversee the closing of the culinary operations ensuring that team members have followed all closing operating procedures.
- Assist in the scheduling, set-up, execution and tear down of all special functions throughout the facility.
- Responsible for maintaining safety and snatiation standards in all areas of service for residents, guests and staff.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, residents, and other departments to perform job duties.
- Follows all Policies & Procedures of The Sharon at SouthPark; including the consumption of food on property.
- Full understanding of all culinary day-to-day operations from the loading dock to the dining room.
- Oversee daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient service delivery in conjunction with the Chef and Assistant Culinary Director.
- Assists in hiring, training, and evaluations of Culinary Service team members in accordance with The Sharon at SouthPark policies.
- Identify resident needs pertaining to food service and quality, and communicating operational corrections.
- Participates in menu development.
- Under the guidance of the Assistant Director and/or Director of Culinary Services develop and implement special events and functions to engage and educate the residents, guests and staff on culinary topics thus enhancing the desirability of the food program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English, ability to get along well with others; to demonstrate flexibility and patience; to work as a member of a team; to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, especially older adults. Must have patience, tact and cheerful disposition. Must have personal integrity; must function independently. Possess a comprehensive knowledge of dining room service techniques, culinary preparation techniques, resident and guest relations, plate presentation, sanitation, food handling, personnel administration, special functions, healthcare operations and operation of all Culinary Service Venues.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma required.
- Prior customer service experience required.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- A degree or certification in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field is preferred.
- 3 years of experience in food service management.
- ServSafe® certified. If not already ServSafe® certified, it is expected that the Culinary Manager become certified within six months from acceptance of this position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for supervising other staff.

The employee is occasionally required to lift, climb, or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required on this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age; capable of standing and walking for 4 or 8 hour shift; carrying and balancing a 10-15 pound tray and pushing/pulling and moving a minimum of 50 pound. Work in a busy dining/kitchen environment, standing for long periods and handling hot and sharp equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Works in Culinary Service department, as well as throughout the community Subject to moderate physical an emotional stress associated with food service. Works in dining room of food service area. While performing duties of this job, the employee will have potential exposure to cleaning chemicals, biohazardous materials, blood/blood borne pathogens, other bodily fluids and residents with communicable diseases.
Full-time position, with hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
