The Skagit Valley Family YMCA is seeking a passionate and organized Swim Lesson Coordinator to lead and oversee our swim lesson programs. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of our aquatic instruction programs, ensuring high-quality swim instruction, program growth, and participant satisfaction.
As the Swim Lesson Coordinator, you will supervise swim instructors, develop class schedules, monitor lesson effectiveness, and maintain a safe and engaging environment for swimmers of all ages and skill levels. You will play a key role in water safety education, helping individuals develop confidence and life-saving swimming skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee and manage the YMCA Swim Lesson Program ensuring a high standard of instruction and participant progress.
- Hire, train, supervise, and schedule swim instructors to ensure adequate staffing.
- Develop and maintain class schedules and program offerings based on community demand.
- Monitor class enrollment, lesson effectiveness, and participant engagement.
- Provide ongoing training and professional development for swim instructors.
- Ensure safety and compliance with all YMCA, Red Cross, and local aquatic regulations.
- Serve as a lead instructor and provide hands-on coaching as needed.
- Communicate with parents and participants regarding progress, feedback, and concerns.
- Track and maintain program records, attendance, and participant evaluations.
- Promote water safety education and community awareness through YMCA events and outreach.
- Support the YMCA’s mission of inclusion, engagement, and community wellness.
Qualifications & Benefits
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Prior experience in swim instruction, coaching, or aquatics leadership preferred
- Lifeguard Certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or YMCA Swim Instructor Certification preferred
- Ability to complete YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification within 30 days of hire
- Ability to complete YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer within 6 months of hire
- Ability to lead, motivate, and support a team of instructors
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to stand, swim, and be active for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist swimmers in emergency situations.
- Work involves water exposure, bending, reaching, and active movement.
- Noise levels in the aquatics facility may vary but are typically moderate to loud.
- Shifts vary and may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
