Community Corrections Case Officer

Reports to
Community Corrections Program Director

Summary
The Community Corrections Case Officer supervises and monitors adult felony offenders who have been sentenced to the Community Corrections Program. Job duties with this position include establishing behavioral contract, determining needed supportive services, and maintaining documentation necessary to comply with program policies and procedures. The Community Corrections Case Officer conducts felony offender home visits and random drug screenings to ensure offenders compliance with court orders and established conditions of release.

Note: This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, applicants may be required to provide information about their criminal history in order to be considered for this position.

Essential Functions

1. Supervise assigned caseload of felony offenders sentenced to the Community Corrections program.

2. Counsel offenders relating to community adjustment skills including job seeking, retention and life coping abilities.

3. Evaluate offender progress of accomplished contract objectives; recommends measurable standards to correct identified problems and deficiencies.

4. Prepares, maintains and documents extensive required reporting and records management.

5. Attends and participates in staff meetings, conferences and in-service training.

6. Instructs and participates in training activities for offenders.

7. Develops job placement options for offenders.

8. Maintains interaction with criminal justice system and other agencies to coordinate and identify applicable resources.

9. Professional phone skill capability.

10. Performs related job duties as required.

11. Provide Cognitive skills training and instruction.

Competencies

1. Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of criminal justice and corrections casework. Knowledge of service area social services and community services agencies.

2. Communication Proficiency – ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and convincingly both in oral and written communications.

3. Client-offender focus – develops offender specific counseling plans, evaluate offender situations incorporating high level offender focused decision making skills.

4. Collaboration Skills – establishes and maintains effective collaboration with the criminal justice system, the public and the community.

5. Organizational skills are a must - maintains organized filing system, possesses general knowledge and experience with office equipment along with detail orientated abilities.

6. Technical Capacity – high level computer skills and computer program knowledge along with computer application(s) experience including; Word, Excel and Outlook.

7. Flexibility – works productively, prioritizes and meets deadlines in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no co-worker supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
This position functions in diverse work environments including offender homes, judicial court, and in a general office environment.

Physical
Must be able to bend down for short periods of time, ability to climb steps or stairs. This position requires the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Weekend work and flexible workweek hours may be required.

Travel
Offender home visits, conference, staff meeting and training travel required.

Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or social behavioral sciences.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Valid Tennessee Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record required.
