Teacher Assistant The Spurwink School
The Teacher Assistant has the primary responsibility for all instructional activities and behavioral interventions in a self-contained therapeutic classroom environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Assisting the teacher in implementing the Individual Education Plans for each student by providing 1:1 and small group instruction in academics according to classroom plans.
•Collecting and analyzing behavioral data by mentoring the identified targeted areas as well as using situations, observations in routine and crisis incidents.
•Modifying the learning experience according to the clinical needs of each student by incorporating the recommendations of doctors, clinicians, and supervisors regarding their diagnostic profile and psychosocial factors.
•Applying approved behavioral protocols consistently, while demonstrating the ability to balance nurturance and accountability through unconditional positive regard.
•Establishing and maintaining positive, productive working relationships with students, parents, colleagues and supervisors by modeling a commitment to teamwork and professionalism.
•Participation in Consultation and other staff meetings.
•Any and all other assignments appropriate to the position as assigned by the Special Education Teacher, Director, or Associate Director.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (B.A) in related field or RI Teacher Assistant Certification.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Hours: Full-Time, Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri, 8:15 AM to 3:15 PM, Tues 8:15 AM – 4:15 PM (36 Hrs. / Wk.)
Reports To: Director and Associate Director of The Spurwink School
Salary: $20.00 / Hr.
