Description
Responsible for applying ionizing radiation to patients. Reads treatment prescriptions for patients and administers the radiation therapy treatment under the supervision of the radiation oncologists. Responsible for delivering dose to appropriate volume, utilizing set-up accessories and x-rays ensuring that exposure is made only to prescribed areas. Interacts with patients, helping to explain the mechanics of the treatment and helping to monitor side effects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to the radiation therapist code of ethics
- Administer radiation therapy as prescribed by the physician
- Display professional conduct essential to the well being of the radiation oncology patient
- Oversee the clinical progress of the radiation oncology patient and report any signs of complications
- Utilize treatment accessories to accurately reproduce the radiation treatment
- Perform machine safety checks, know safe limits of equipment operations, and report abnormalities or inconsistencies to the proper authority
- Utilize imaging equipment and treatment systems for precise tumor localization
- Work closely with the radiation oncologist and the therapy team in the preparation of a treatment plan that is customized to the patients needs
- Maintain accurate and detailed electronic charts (including CT/Sim setup information and photo into RT chart)
- Obtain weekly port films
- Maintain accurate billing charges daily
- Assist the physicist, maintains equipment in safe and satisfactory working condition; reports defects or deficiencies for adjustment and repair.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree, Certificate in Radiation Therapy, or requires RT with extensive background in Radiation Oncology. Capable of establishing and maintaining good patient rapport.
