Position Description:

This is a highly responsible professional position located in the Office of Communications. This position assists the Strategic Initiatives Manger and Communications Director with creating and planning public-facing events and assists in promoting the Department’s strategic initiatives.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Strategic Initiatives Manager, planning public facing events including, press conferences, roundtables, fireside chats, and community engagement events.
  • Working with the Department’s program areas to identify opportunities to highlight the Department’s work and initiatives.
  • Drafting proclamations, talking points, and other communications.
  • Creating event briefs for senior leadership.
  • Staffing senior Department leadership at public events.
  • Conducting outreach in the community and building relationships with partners, providers, and key stakeholders.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic management principles and practices.
  • Ability to organize information into logical format for presentation in event briefs, documents, and other written materials.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to operational and management analysis activities.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in communications and/or event planning.
  • Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with AP Style and
  • Strong knowledge of the Windows environment.
