Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position with the Orange County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is primarily responsible for certifying potential low risk participants to the program and for providing nutrition education and breastfeeding education. Travel may be required, therefore, a valid state of Florida driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are mandatory.
Interviews and screens participants for demographics and WIC income eligibility. Completes required FL-WiSE WIC computer system screens, temporary certification and ineligibility forms; reviews immunization records as per program requirements. Operates FL-WiSE computer system and related equipment including printers, scanners, pin pads, and network printers. Issues food benefits, special formula, and provides required documents to clients. Responsible for security, storage and inventories including but not limited to special formula and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards. Completes daily and monthly inventories as required. Schedules appointments for participants/potential participants through the FL-WiSE WIC data system. Takes height/length and weight measurements. Ensures anthropometric equipment is calibrated and clean at all times. Performs CLIA waived hemoglobin testing for WIC participants. Calibrates and performs daily controls for Hemocue analyzer. Maintains a log of lab results and services performed. Maintains Hemocue machine and keeps work/lab stations clean and organized. Refers clients back to their provider for all below normal results per local policy. Answers questions regarding access to WIC program services and provides information and WIC client related services as requested. Provides information to participants regarding WIC policies and procedures, rights and obligations, and how to use the WIC EBT benefits card. Refers participants to appropriate health department services, other state programs and/or to applicable community agencies and organizations. Performs follow-up activities regarding referrals for WIC program services and for missed WIC program certification appointments. Instructs participant, parent/guardian in the proxy procedure, certification periods, and appointment policies. Completes and/or updates WIC Program Verification of Certification/Identification (VOC) cards. Offers voter registration and maintains appropriate documentation.Interviews and screens participants for Nutrition and Breastfeeding information. Completes nutrition questionnaires and Completes required FL-WiSE WIC data system computer screens related to Nutrition History and Breastfeeding as delegated. Provides second nutrition education contact to clients, individuals and/or groups. Ensures nutrition and breastfeeding education and promotion information adheres to appropriate nutrition theme and/or lesson plan and to state and local agency guidelines. Completes proper documentation of nutrition education in FL-WiSE WIC data system. Participates in Outreach activities including but not limited to health fairs, FL DOH events, community programs, contacting healthcare professionals, contacting potential WIC clients, and other outreach activities as assigned. Attends and participates in mandatory staff development and training and required in-service training sessions, as well as regularly scheduled departmental staff meetings. Performs the duties and responsibilities of absent support staff at assigned duty station or at another Orange County WIC program location as requested. Prepares and submits bi-weekly reports of time and services provided. Prepares request for travel reimbursement and submits according to pre-established departmental procedures. Maintains email communications on a daily basis. Performs other related duties as assigned. Whenever possible, the determination of income eligibility and/or nutrition risk eligibility and issuance functions must be separate in order to insure program integrity as stated in DHM 150-24, page 3-1, section 3-2.

Qualifications:
- Willing to learn to perform hemoglobin testing (blood tests) on clients.
- 1-3 years of verifiable customer service experience.
- Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Emergency duties may also include in-state and/or out-of-state deployment.
- Have a valid Florida Drivers license, if not you will be required to get a Florida Drivers license within 30 days of hire.
- In the absence of a coutny vehicle, you will need to have access to a personal vehicle or reliable transportation.
