OTHER PERSONNEL SERVICES (OPS) POSITION

Specific Responsibilities:

This is a part-time, 20 hours per week OPS position. This position involves professional work to plan, implement, and conduct tobacco health promotion and education programs for youth within schools and community groups to include work providing instruction and training to the youth through the Tobacco Prevention Program. This position requires the ability to work independently and to work with both youth and adults. Public speaking, public relations, and computer skills are required. This position requires travel and some weekend and evening hours.

Coordinates the youth prevention component, Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT), of the statewide comprehensive Tobacco Prevention and Control Program by planning youth meetings, recruiting and retaining youth in the SWAT organization, and working with youth to develop youth trainings and events throughout the county. Facilitates youth trainings on public speaking and priority areas of tobacco related policy change. Transports and chaperones youth for state and regional meetings of SWAT.

Provides support to the Tobacco Prevention Coordinator. Examples: designing and producing tobacco health education media materials, brochures and displays for health fairs, seminars, conferences; maintaining tobacco promotion and public health education library, and equipment; conducting teen/community surveys to determine the effectiveness of current tobacco programs and to assess tobacco promotion needs; collaborates in the preparation of tobacco promotion and education grant proposals; operates and maintains tobacco audiovisual equipment, computers, projection panels, tele-conferencing equipment and related materials.

Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience related to health equity, social determinants of health, and cultural competency.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document workflow and other activities relating to the improvement of operational and management practices.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and with community partners.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Preferred - Experience working with youth planning and organizing prevention activities/programs such as but not limited to: SWAT
  • Required - Current Driver's License
