This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

  • three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation.
  • any 2 convictions of reckless driving in the past 3 years.
  • a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past 3 years; and
  • a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past 4 years

Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver’s license confirmed.


POSITION DESCRIPTION: Monitors and inspects completed construction projects during the warranty period. Documents and enters the result into Contract Information & Monitoring System (CIMS) on all completed projects as per specifications. Communicates regularly with District Warranty Engineer to ensure the inspections are being performed and deficiencies are being corrected to the end of the warranty period.


Coordinates and inspects the contractor's remedial work as per Section 338 for asphalt and 580 for landscaping of standard specifications as well as all other contract specific warranty and value-added items. Ensures the completed work meets the required specifications, including testing and sampling. Notifies the District Warranty Engineer if the remedial work is not completed on time.


Participates in pre-construction, pre-landscape installation, and final inspection for landscaping portion of construction projects. Ensures that the landscaping items are installed as per plans and specifications prior to final acceptance. Participates in, tracks and schedules the quarterly landscape inspection into CIMS.


Acts as department's representative working with the municipalities and maintaining agencies in order to transfer the maintenance responsibilities after the warranty ends.


Oversees latent defects of the materials used on the project after final acceptance. This includes identifying, evaluating, and developing an appropriate action for the resolution of issues.


Coordinates with other Operations Center staff including Project Oversite, Project Administrators, and maintenance staff to ensure a complete and accurate plans review.


Acts as liaison between the Operation Center and Production, copies and distributes plans for review and coordinates review plans to reviewers.


Develops and maintains files for all reviewed and active construction projects which contain plans, contracts, and all documentation relating to reviewed projects, including field notes, and requests for information (RFIs). Create a tracking program and updates Construction Project Supplemental Agreements and Work Order codes.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of concepts, terminology, principles of road and bridge construction. Knowledge of construction material testing requirement. Knowledge of proper construction techniques, methods and materials. Skill in the interpretation of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standard specifications, roadway, traffic design standards and the Florida Sample Testing Manual. Skill in dealing effectively with a variety of people. Skill in the use of personal computers, windows, word processing and spreadsheets. Ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) with contractors, consulting engineers, FDOT staff, local agencies and the public. Ability to work independently and effectively with little supervision. Ability to review field decisions involving contract specifications, interpretation, scope and intend of contracts and changed conditions. Ability to make decisions and engineering judgments regarding plans and specifications. Ability to organize documentation before on-going construction projects, prepare reports and maintain records.


OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: While on duty status, the position’s incumbent may be required to drive a state owned or leased vehicle to perform the duties of this position. A valid Class “E” Driver’s License is required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A High School Diploma or its Equivalent; 2 years’ experience in a related field can substitute for the High School Diploma or Equivalency.

A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary.
