The Office of the Kansas Attorney General's Administrative Division is seeking a thoughtful and detail-oriented accountant to join our Fiscal Services team. PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Assists agency staff with their travel arrangements, both in state and out of state.
- Supports staff with acquiring the appropriate approvals and filling out the required documentation pertaining to travel.
- Processes travel expense vouchers using accurate account codes in accordance with agency procedure, applicable regulations and the State of Kansas Travel Expense Reimbursement Handbook.
- Completes initial processing of the agency’s fuel, rental vehicle and other travel-related procurement card billings.
- Determines appropriate expenditure object codes and funding for all travel expense reports. Most reimbursements involve multiple funding sources.
- Utilizes SMART accounting system daily in the preparation of vouchers, travel authorizations, travel reimbursements and purchase requisitions. Ensures all transactions are in compliance with state rules, regulations, policies, procedures and contract provisions.
- Provides technical assistance and training to agency staff of accounting, fiscal and travel procedures; recommends revisions in account structure and ledger or report formats.
- Consults daily with agency administrators, staff members and general public to address a variety of accounting and purchasing issues and responds to inquiries pertaining to accounting procedures and policies.
- Reconciles statements for procurement cards and travel cards.
- Manages vehicles in reference to mileage, fuel and K-Tag usage and maintenance.
- Requisitions goods and services from statewide contracts.
- Purchases goods and services within established limits as provided by the Department of Administration.
- Monitors off contract spending.
- Processes deposits.
- Maintains agency asset log.
- Performs backup duties for other procurement related activities as required.

Education
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business administration, accounting, or related field(s). Professional or technical experience, as deemed by the Attorney General to be sufficient qualification to perform the assigned work, may be substituted for the required college study.
Licensing & Certification
- A valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State
Minimum Qualifications
- At least four (4) years of experience in professional accounting/auditing work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the State of Kansas' Statewide Management, Accounting and Reporting Tool (SMART).
- Knowledge of State of Kansas travel regulations and the State of Kansas Travel Expense Reimbursement Handbook.
