What are the responsibilities and job description for the Linen Service Worker position at The State of Maryland?
A Linen Service Worker is the full performance level of work inspecting, sorting, folding and distributing garments and linens in a State facility or institution. Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions.
Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Linen Service Supervisor or other designated position. Employees in this classification may be required to wear protective equipment such as goggles, gloves and masks when handling soiled laundry to prevent contamination and spread of disease. The work involves moving, loading and unloading heavy and bulky bags of laundry.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Collects soiled laundry from designated sites;
Gathers, weighs and loads soiled laundry on transport vehicles;
Unloads, sorts, folds, and places clean laundry on shelves or in bins;
Inspects soiled and clean laundry for rips, tears and stains;
Fills requisitions of needed laundry items completed by staff and places items in labeled bags for distribution;
Conducts inventory of supplies, garments, and linens so that supervisors can requisition needed items;
Labels laundry items by stamp or marking machine;
Cleans and disinfects work areas and laundry transport vehicles in order to prevent contamination and spread of disease;
May mend and alter garments and repair linens used by facility residents;
May load and drive trucks or other vehicles to deliver soiled laundry and to pick up clean laundry from regional laundry centers;
May use washing machines and dryers to clean residential laundry;
Performs other related duties.
