The State of New Hampshire, Department of Labor, Inspection Division has a full-time vacancy for an Intake Coordinator.

Summary:
To research and review labor law information for use in communicating agency policies, procedures and regulations for the purpose of compliance. To provide highly responsible administrative and technical duties in areas of processing complaints, wages, resolution of workers’ compensation claims, and inspections.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with the major study in pre-law, public administration, business administration, nursing, pre-med or personnel management. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two years of professional or paraprofessional experience in areas of labor law, workers’ compensation, legal research, case review, case evaluation or with resolution of claims, or related experience, with responsibility for planning, monitoring programs, or performing research.

License/Certification : Eligibility for New Hampshire driver's license, if necessary for travel throughout the state.

  • Selected candidate will undergo a criminal and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
  • Must possess knowledge of State and Federal labor laws, court practices and procedures, and business practices and procedures.

The structured interview is developed and administered, according to Division of Personnel guidelines, by representatives of the state agency in which the vacancy exists

Responsibilities:

Research and responds to questions from staff, agencies, the public, carriers and attorneys pertaining to workers’ compensation policy, wages, rules and statutes concerning labor law compliance and regulations in order to provide assistance.

Develops and prepares written and oral responses to inquiries concerning labor law compliance from the public; applies considerable initiative, judgment, and effort in conducting research into labor law concerns requiring extensive knowledge of rules, policies, and laws.

Confers with other agency staff in order to facilitate the processing of pending labor law complaints being administratively adjudicated through the Department; reviews and researches regulations, laws and policies to provide assistance to the public and investigates complex complaints and problems, consulting with superior as needed.

Reviews the Inspection Division’s reports and correspondence to ensure consistency with programmatic obligations and initiatives; monitors and updates files of current state and federal regulations, agency policies and procedures and supports their application to the Division’s programs and outreach efforts.

Calculates and recovers wages due for current and former employees and provides explanation and interpretation of technical information and about policies and regulations.

Coordinates and presents informational programs and seminars to educate selected industries, civic groups and educators relative to labor laws. Conducts training sessions to issuing officers of youth employment certificates to ensure that correct procedures are adhered to regarding the employment of minors.

Analyzes, compile and interprets field data, applying the law and administrative rules to identify solutions for identified issues or problems; prepares reports to provide for the resolution of workers’ compensation claims.

Examines inspection reports and/or certificates for boilers and unfired pressure vessels, elevators, escalators, and accessibility lifts to ensure the currency and proper posting of documents.

Monitors changes in state statutes relating to the NH Department of Labor and works in support of the agency to ensure updates and applications.
