The Speechwriter will work collaboratively with colleagues in Communications, the Chancellor's Office, and throughout System Administration to ensure that SUNY's priority messaging is reflected in the Chancellor's prepared remarks. In addition to possessing excellent writing, editing, and research skills, candidates should be effective time managers, able to coordinate several writing projects at once while meeting established deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Directly responsible for drafting talking points or scripted remarks for the various public events on the Chancellor's daily calendar, requiring excellent writing ability and the skills needed to adopt the Chancellor's voice.
Occasional assistance writing and/or editing materials produced by the Communications Office, such as op-eds, website content, press releases and media advisories, and printed publications.
Job Requirements:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree.
5 years of experience writing for individual(s) in public positions.
Strong communications, writing, editing, and research skills.
Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling with an eye for detail.
Understanding of target audiences and the most effective way to reach them.
Familiarity with current higher education issues.
Team player, ready to collaborate with colleagues and offices throughout SUNY
Time management, with the ability to organize and prioritize several writing projects at once.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a higher education or government setting strongly preferred.
Familiarity with science/research writing a plus.
Additional Information:
Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $85,000 - $105,00.
