The Environmental Conservation and Horticulture Department is seeking a Full-Time Tenure-Track Faculty Member specializing in Integrated Plant Science. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of horticulture courses, advising students, and contributing to the growth and success of the program. FLCC offers many different modalities for courses, such as Asynchronous Online, In-person, Hybrid, Hyflex, and Synchronous Online. As faculty in the Environmental Conservation and Horticulture Department, you may be asked to teach in any of these modalities, ensuring a dynamic and flexible learning environment for our students.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking an equity-minded educator who is committed to FLCC's mission, vision, and values.

  • Teaches undergraduate courses in horticulture, including but not limited to Soil Science, Introduction to Horticulture, Plant Propagation and Nursery Management, Certified Applicators Training, Cannabis Biology to Industrial Application, and Cannabis Cultivation.
  • Develops and updates course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
  • Engages students through innovative teaching methods and active learning strategies.
  • Advises and mentors students on academic and career goals.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and assessment activities.
  • Contributes to the college community through service on committees and participation in college events.
  • Stays current with industry trends and incorporate relevant developments into the curriculum.
  • Engages in professional development activities to enhance teaching effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Horticulture, Plant Science, or a closely related field with at least two years of post-graduate professional experience in ornamental horticulture, floriculture, nursery crop production, and/or greenhouse management; or a Ph.D. in Horticulture, Plant Science, or a closely related field.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence and mentoring students.
  • Experience with diverse teaching modalities (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, and asynchronous).
  • Proficiency in plant science and ornamental horticulture, including principles and techniques in plant installation, culture, maintenance, and commercial production.
  • Experience in greenhouse/nursery management and operation, including plant scheduling, propagation, production methods, and integrated pest management.
  • Familiarity with Cannabis genetics, breeding strategies, and cultivation technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on industry or research experience with Cannabis genetics, breeding strategies, and cultivation technologies.
  • Background in industrial post-harvest processing of field- and/or greenhouse-grown Cannabis, including quality control.
  • Training or experience in cannabinoid extraction, formulation methodologies, and analytical techniques for cannabinoid profiling.
  • Knowledge of cannabis regulatory compliance in NYS.
  • Business knowledge and connections within the NYS horticultural industry.
  • Experience in hydroponic crop production and management.

Benefits And Salary Range

  • Salary will depend on rank according to education and experience – Starting salary: Instructor: $56,132; Assistant Professor: $62,567.
