The Volunteer Coordinator plays a vital role in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to support the mission of The Storehouse Project. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this part-time position is responsible for ensuring a strong, engaged, and well-supported volunteer base that enhances the organization’s programs and services.
This role focuses on volunteer recruitment, onboarding, retention, scheduling, and appreciation efforts while fostering a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven volunteer culture. The Volunteer Coordinator will develop outreach strategies, coordinate training sessions, maintain records, and facilitate communication between volunteers and staff. Additionally, they will collaborate with leadership and community partners to expand volunteer engagement and ensure adequate staffing for all programs and events.
- Develop and implement strategies to attract new volunteers (e.g., community outreach, social media campaigns, partnerships with local organizations, and schools).
- Organize volunteer recruitment events (virtual or in-person) and attend relevant community fairs and events.
- Maintain relationships with previous volunteers to encourage future participation.
- Develop an orientation process for new volunteers, including introductions to the organization’s mission, values, and key activities.
- Provide or organize training sessions to equip volunteers with the skills they need to perform their roles effectively.
- Ensure all necessary background checks and paperwork are completed as part of onboarding.

Event Coordination
- Work with program staff to ensure volunteers are adequately prepared for upcoming events or activities.
- Coordinate volunteer involvement in special events, fundraisers, or outreach efforts.
Collaboration with Staff and Leadership
- Work closely with program leaders and provide support at events and functions.
- Collaborate with other staff members to identify areas where volunteer support is needed.
- Participate in staff meetings to provide input on volunteer engagement strategies.

This position is located in Milford, CT and requires up to 25% travel locally and throughout the state.
Schedule and Hours:
Part-time: Monday through Friday, with a flexible schedule to include some Saturdays and evenings.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour, based on experience
