SUMMARY

The Environmental Health and Safety Intern at The Suter Company is a 10-week, part-time summer internship for Summer 2025. This role is responsible for supporting and assisting with the Company’s key environmental health and safety efforts, including: hazard communications, ergonomic improvements, risk assessment and safety training. This role will report to the Environmental Health and Safety Manager. 


CORE HOURS

This role will be a 10-week, part-time position for Summer 2025. Intern will report three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8am – 5pm) for a maximum of 24 hours per week. This internship will begin on June 3, 2025 and complete the week of August 4, 2025. 


COMPENSATION

The Environmental Health and Safety Intern will be an hourly paid position with a pay of $19/hour.  


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify risks and hazards.
  • Assist in the development and deliver safety training programs for employees.
  • Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents and provide recommendations on corrective and preventative action.
  • Review chemical usage by the company to assure compliance with regulation.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Work closely with the EHS team and other internal teams as needed. 
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

Requirements

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Public Safety, Environmental Sciences or a related field.
  • A full-time, rising college/university Junior or Senior in Fall 2025.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Self-starter with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic and sense of integrity, trustworthiness and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • PC proficient with MS office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to creatively problem solve and analyze projects in a strategic manner.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to shift from various projects and manage frequent interruptions.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read, write and complete paperwork related to the role.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively collaborate with employees, managers and external agencies. 
  • Reasoning – Follow instructions and perform routine, repetitive task(s) recognize problems
  • Mathematical – Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers
  • Communication – Ability to understand and follow verbal, written or demonstrated instructions and short correspondence. Ability to write identifying information
  • Technical – Ability to operate and control equipment; ability to monitor equipment to make sure it is running properly
  • Physical Effort – Medium work: exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly, 20 pounds of force frequently and 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift or move objects 
  • Vision – far, near, and mid-range, depth perception and adequate field of vision
  • Activity – Regularly stand, use finger dexterity, reach with hands and arms, engage in repetitive motions and grasp; occasionally talk, hear, climb, kneel, crouch, lift, push and pull
